Holter Monitor

What is it?

A Holter monitor is a device which records the rhythm of your heart. The monitor may be worn for anywhere from 24 hours up to 14 days. This monitor can identify abnormal rhythms in your heart while you go about your day and while you sleep. This information can help your physician to understand your hearts electrical activity over the specified period.

What do I need to do?

Please bring a valid OHIP Card to your appointment.

There are no special preparations for your procedure.

Do not wear body lotion or perfume on the day of your test.

What can I expect on the day of the test?

Shortly after you check-in, one of our Technologists bring you into the exam room and conduct a brief interview explaining the procedure. You will then be asked to remove your shirt and electrodes will be placed on your chest to measure your heart's activity. Your technologist will then attach a monitor to these electrodes and provide you a pouch to hold the monitor. The technologist will provide you with instructions for your monitor type.

How long will it take?

This procedure takes approximately 15 minutes to set-up. You will have to return your Holter monitor at the end of the required wearing period.
